Day 3 Bangkok – Second Fitting, Chinatown, Bars and the Train

Woke up and checked out of the hotel, then went to grab my train ticket. Pickup times are limited so I needed to get it before 1pm. Decided I was close to Chinatown, so I should grab a snack. Glad I did. Eggrolls and beef fried rice to die for from street vendors. Every day I’m getting more comfortable with the street food. Just thinking about what you eat before you do is all it takes. Eat fried, or fresh cooked. Also use lime, because it kills bacteria in the food. All the street vendors seem to use it religiously.

Second fitting for suits, need I say more? One shirt done and one pair of pants. Outline of jackets has been built. They took a look, suggested alterations and sent me on my way. They were a little delayed so they took me to a nearby restaurant to eat while I waited. Papaya Salad, and roast chicken with jasmine rice. Yes I ate two lunches today. Judge me. Cuff inspiration goes to my boss Tim. Also took a picture of the pants lining which they put in for me. keeps the shirts tucked.

Train wasn’t due to leave for another couple hours so I hit a bar on the way to the train station. First off, I haven’t seen a bar in Thailand yet that was relaxed except for foreign pubs like an irish bar or something. I wasn’t really into the thought of a lukewarm stout at 95 degrees outside. I ventured into a bar that looked quiet. I heard springsteen playing and decided that was the right one (Born to Run gets me every time) drank a couple beers with my waitress there. In Bangkok, men in bars are an immediate targets for other types of tourism. No one is surprised here. Luckily, keeping your waitress or bartenders happy, they will keep those folks away. Since they weren’t busy, I was able to talk to Nana (waitress) about that industry though. Very informative discussion about differences in perceptions between cultures, I will leave it at that, as I may have some younger readers. Would be more than happy to share when I get back.

Off to the overnight train to Chiang Mai, in the north!
